One - of many - points of view

Climate change is or is not a happening event.

If it is, then we need to do something about it.
If it then transpires that we got it wrong, it will have cost an awful amount of effort and money.

If it not happening then we need do little about it.
If it then transpires that we got it wrong, then we will be doing an incredible amount of damage to the planet that will cost us an awful lot more to put right.

Either way and to fail safe, we need to be doing more about climate change.

One consideration of many:

A major factor is the human footprint.  As the population increases, so the climate change problem increases. Figures extrapolating the human population of the planet are daunting.  As the developing and undeveloped areas of the planet become more sophisticated, their requirements for advancement (transport, whitegoods, heating, cooling etc.) increase. The “carbon” footprint swells significantly.

So to tackle climate change, a major consideration is the number of people on the planet.  If the developed world is producing, on average, under two children per family, then we need to try and develop the under developed to that same situation. In this way the increase in population numbers may at least be slowed and consequently the human footprint of climate change also slowed.

One way?
To me this is the difficult to swallow, but, all things being equal, our preference needs to be to buy the off shore item from a developing or undeveloped country in preference to the local item. Again, all things being equal, we need to consider the export every possible job from the developed to the underdeveloped.  This process hopefully accelerates the development of the undeveloped and developing so that perhaps they may have fewer children per family. The rise in population then slows.

Painful?  Yes.  Our local situation becomes difficult and unpopular to manage. But greater climate change may well be the far more dangerous option.

I guess this gets me back to the beginning.
If this thought process is right we need to get on and develop the underdeveloped.
If I am wrong, we still cannot afford not to?
